Angles-sur-l'Anglin, nestled between the regions of Berry and Poitou, is home to prehistoric secrets and a medieval fortress perched on the banks of the river.

Fancy a characterful getaway? Head to Angles-sur-l'Anglin, where the ruins of a medieval fortress overlook the river. Connected by a stone bridge, the upper and lower towns reveal another treasure: the Roc-aux-Sorciers, a jewel of prehistoric art with 15,000-year-old cave carvings. As you wander through the village, you can also discover the Jours d'Angles, a fine embroidery tradition passed down from generation to generation.

Word of Mouth

Angles-sur-l’Anglin owes its name … to the Angles, a Saxon tribe which also gave its name to England! Their descendants named the river the Angle, then the Anglin, hence the village’s name.
