Curemonte, a medieval gem in the Corrèze region, where three castles stand guard from their rocky outcrops
In the south of Corrèze, not far from the Lot, Curemonte stretches along a ridge, offering superb views over the Sourdoire and Maumont valleys.
As you stroll through its medieval streets, you’ll come across three castles with round or square towers, a 12th-century Romanesque church and beautiful stately homes with carved details.
Every stone here tells the story of an ancient co-seigneury and the village’s strategic role during the Hundred Years’ War.

In 1940, the writer Colette sought refuge in Curemonte with her daughter, the owner of the châteaux of Saint-Hilaire and Les Plas. In this haven of tranquillity, she wrote part of her novel *Le Journal à rebours* and drew inspiration from the surrounding landscapes.

Enjoy the view
Walk up the main street and let the view open out onto the Sourdoire and Maumont valleys. As you walk, the towers of the three castles come into view above the village. For a panoramic view of the village, head to the nearby orientation board. A ‘Wow!’ moment guaranteed!

Come spring, put on your best walking boots and set off to explore the trails around Curemonte. Covering 7 km and taking around 2 hours, this circular walk allows you to admire Curemonte’s heritage and the unspoilt landscapes of Corrèze.
