A natural balcony overlooking the Dordogne
Perched 150 metres above the meandering River Dordogne, the picturesque town of Domme boasts stunning vistas of the valley and is a top destination in the Périgord Noir region.
Word of Mouth
Who would have thought that the Domme vineyard was once as extensive as that of the Bergerac region? In the 19th century, phylloxera destroyed a large part of the 2,700 hectares of vines planted on the slopes of the Céou (a tributary of the Dordogne), and the production of Domme wines gradually came to a halt. In the 1980s, a handful of enthusiasts from the farming community decided to revive the vineyards and secured the support of the local authorities. In 1996, the vines replanted two years earlier yielded their first harvest, and today the 18 hectares of vineyards managed by the Coopérative des Vignerons des Coteaux du Céou produce seven wines, including reds, rosés and whites.
