A natural balcony overlooking the Dordogne
Perched 150 metres above the meandering River Dordogne, the picturesque town of Domme boasts stunning vistas of the valley and is a top destination in the Périgord Noir region.
Word of Mouth
Who would have thought that the Domme vineyard was once as extensive as that of the Bergerac region? In the 19th century, phylloxera destroyed a large part of the 2,700 hectares of vines planted on the slopes of the Céou (a tributary of the Dordogne), and the production of Domme wines gradually came to a halt. In the 1980s, a handful of enthusiasts from the farming community decided to revive the vineyards and secured the support of the local authorities. In 1996, the vines replanted two years earlier yielded their first harvest, and today the 18 hectares of vineyards managed by the Coopérative des Vignerons des Coteaux du Céou produce seven wines, including reds, rosés and whites.

Exhibition by Ikuru Kuwajima at the Domme Museum: “Chez les Reclus” (At the Reclus’ Home)—an international refuge in Domme between the two world wars, featuring previously unpublished accounts, documents, photos, and videos. Between 1915 and 1945, the home of Paul Reclus, son of Élie Reclus and nephew of Élisée Reclus, in Domme, Dordogne, served as a place of welcome and exchange for many activists and thinkers from around the world. Ikuru Kuwajima has scoured Japanese and European archives to gather documents and photographs that were previously little known or even unpublished. Through the exhibition at the Domme Museum, this project aims to document a still largely unexplored chapter in the history of Domme and the transnational libertarian movement. Opening reception on Saturday, October 10, at 5:00 p.m.
