Overlooking the village, the castle stands guard. Built at the end of the 9th century, it is privately owned and not open to the public. You can, however, walk along the ramparts and enjoy the view over the Meuse Valley.

Reach one of Wallonia’s Most Beautiful Villages via the Way of St James

Follow the GR®654 (the Via Monastica) in the opposite direction to the pilgrims heading for Santiago de Compostela and cross the Belgian border. After a 16 km walk (between 4 and 4½ hours), you will reach Soulme, listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia. You’ll pass through the unspoilt Hermeton Valley before arriving in this village with its limestone houses, 11th-century church and old 18th-century mill.

A family cycle ride along the Trans-Ardennes Greenway

Just a few kilometres from Hierges, near Aubrives, join the Trans-Ardennes Greenway for a family cycling getaway! Starting from Charleville-Mézières or Sedan, this cycle route follows the course of the River Meuse and its meanders as far as Givet, whose grey-blue limestone quarries supplied the building materials for Hierges, just nearby (8 km).

The Croix du Duel Walk

This 12 km loop (approx. 3 hours) passes through the village of Hierges and includes a stop at the Croix du Duel. Situated in the village square, this stone cross, carved in 1579, commemorates a brawl between a former soldier and the mayor of a neighbouring village, which ended in tragedy... During this easy walk, you’ll also discover the Deluve Valley, the Nature Reserve and the village of Vireux-Molhain with its collegiate church, on the banks of the Meuse.

Every summer, the buildings in Hierges are adorned with works by local artists, reproduced on large-format tarpaulins. More than twenty canvases add a special touch to your visit to the village!
