Around the church, cobbled streets, half-timbered houses and the remains of fortifications tell a story spanning over 1,000 years. Finally, step inside the Chapel of Saint James and discover its remarkable collection of statues.

Monestiés is said to take its name from an ancient monastery first mentioned as early as 936. Later on, pilgrims on the Way of St James would stop off at a small hospital in the village, far from the main roads.

Fancy a bit of exercise? Around Monestiés, there are cycling and mountain biking routes to suit all abilities. Follow the old railway line or set off on one of the 16 circuits to enjoy the open landscapes overlooking the Viaur Valley and the Ségala plateaus.
La Borie Blanche walking trail
In spring, head for the hills on the La Borie Blanche walk. This easy 6 km walk follows the old Carmaux–Monestiés railway line, winding its way through hills, forests and the Cérou valley, offering superb views of Monestiés and the Ségala. And don’t forget your torch for walking through the old tunnel!
