The Cité des Ducs in Limousin
This charming, flower-filled village, set in the Limousin region, grew up around the 10th-century castle built by Abon Drut, Lord of Mortemart. Ordered to be destroyed by Cardinal Richelieu, only the keep’s tower and a few rooms that have been converted into exhibition spaces remain today. While the Carmelite and Augustinian convents bear witness to the village's religious past, the old market hall and the houses of the town's notable figures serve as a reminder that Mortemart was also a thriving market town.

During European Heritage Days, come discover the history and iconic landmarks of the village of Mortemart—the only village in Haute-Vienne to have been designated one of the “Most Beautiful Villages of France.” By the end of the tour, the Château des Ducs, the church with its carved choir stalls, and the various convents will hold no more secrets for you. Tour limited to 30 people. If more people are interested, another tour can be scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
