Parfondeval, the fortified gem of Thiérache.
Welcome to Picardy, and more specifically to Thiérache, a region on the borders of the Ardennes, the Nord department and Belgium, renowned for its red-brick and slate-roofed villages and its fortified churches!
As you head towards Parfondeval, you’ll discover one of its jewels: the imposing Saint-Médard Church, with its two turrets, the grand houses and its pond serving as the central square, all lend it a unique charm.
Set against a backdrop of apple orchards, pastures and cornfields, the village invites you to enjoy a simple, rustic getaway: the countryside just the way we like it!
History and local character in Thiérache
Come and discover a unique heritage in this village where farming is ever-present, particularly in the local produce! You’ll learn how the villagers used to hide from bandits in the loft of Saint-Médard Church, and how the history of Protestantism has shaped the village.
Word of Mouth
In Thiérache, ponds used for livestock farming have long been a feature of rural life. In Parfondeval, one such pond still stands in the heart of the village, lending charm and character to this rare piece of the local landscape.
