Pesmes, a medieval village in Franche-Comté, on the banks of the River Ognon

On the banks of the River Ognon, Pesmes stands out as a fortified town on the road from Gray to Dole. The ruins of the lords’ castle, the winegrowers’ houses and Saint-Hilaire Church tell the story of the region’s rich history.

Below, the old forges serve as a reminder of a thriving past in crafts and industry. Take a stroll along the ramparts or the riverbanks and let yourself be charmed by this delightful village in the heart of Franche-Comté.

The site of the forges (the former slag heap) is still a great place to take a stroll. The buildings, constructed at the end of the 17th century, are located on a peninsula in the heart of the River Ognon. The historical, technical and social dimensions of the site have been preserved. The residence of the former forge masters adjoins the workers' accommodation and the gardener's house.

Festival Musique en tribune 2026 : Marin Marais

A high point in French Baroque instrumental composition, Marin Marais’s *Suite d’un goût étranger* is taken from his *Fourth Book of Pieces for Bass Viola da Gamba and Basso Continuo*, published in 1717. The book is divided into three parts and aims to ‘cater to the public’s varied tastes in viola music’ by presenting pieces that are ‘easy and melodious’. The central section, intended for experienced viol players, consists of thirty-three character pieces brought together under a suite with the enigmatic title: Suite d’un goût étranger. At the dawn of the 18th century, Marin Marais was one of the most renowned French viol players and teachers in his country. He resigned from his post as a musician in the King’s Chamber in 1708 and gradually withdrew from court life. Now freed from his royal obligations, he may have enjoyed greater freedom as a composer.
