The Rance Estuary

Brittany: where land meets sea

Perched high above the Rance estuary, Saint-Suliac has long been a village of salt workers, watched over by the Virgin of Grainfollet. In the narrow streets where children run after school, flowers grow between the granite stones of the magnificent houses. A tide mill, old salt pans and a menhir are among the local treasures that can be admired in this remarkably well-preserved setting.

The oratory, which is accessible via the coastal path at low tide, was a gathering place for women waiting for the fishing boats to return. Overlooking the village and the Rance estuary, the site offers lovely views, particularly at sunset.

Television in Saint-Suliac

The story of the ‘terre-neuvas’ inspired the TV film *Entre terre et mer*, filmed in 1995 in Saint-Suliac and starring Didier Bienaimé, Bernard Fresson, Claude Piéplu, Odette Laure and Roland Blanche. The people of Saint-Suliac still have fond memories of meeting these illustrious actors, who have since passed away, and of the daily life they shared for several months with the entire film crew.
