A romantic getaway between Paris and Normandy
Treat your partner to a romantic weekend just outside Paris, on the borders of Normandy, Picardy and Île-de-France!
Enjoy the first signs of spring together in the beech forest of Lyons-la-Forêt (Eure), and the rose-blooming season in Gerberoy (Oise), or a stroll along the banks of the Seine at La Roche-Guyon (Oise). A romantic weekend combining relaxation, fine dining, nature and heritage in Les Plus Beaux Villages de France!
Day 1 – Paris – Gerberoy – Lyons-la-Forêt
If possible, set off in the morning, before 10 am, so that you can make the most of your day in Gerberoy.
Explore this tiny village with its narrow streets lined with hundreds of rose bushes and its charming brick and half-timbered façades. At lunchtime, for a truly romantic atmosphere, we recommend Les Jardins du Vidamé, Le Jardin des Ifs or L’Atelier de Sarah: all three offer simple yet delicious, high-quality cuisine.
In the afternoon, take a stroll arm in arm through the Henri Le Sidaner Gardens, named after the 19th–20th-century Post-Impressionist painter who fell in love with Gerberoy so much that he made it his main residence and created this romantic garden (now classified as a ‘Jardin Remarquable’) on the site of a former château.
You’ll then set off again towards Lyons-la-Forêt, where you’ll stay in one of the village’s 3- or 4-star hotels. Dress up for dinner at La Licorne Royale, where the cuisine of the MICHELIN-starred chef is sure to delight your partner’s taste buds!
Day 2 – Lyons-la-Forêt
For the second day of your romantic getaway, treat yourselves to a moment of total relaxation at the spa at the La Licorne hotel. Indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, sauna, steam room… We particularly recommend the couples’ treatment in a treehouse!
Then have lunch in one of the restaurants on the charming Place de la Halle – on the terrace if the weather’s fine! – and admire the beautifully restored half-timbered façades and watch village life unfold from its very heart. If you prefer a more intimate atmosphere, Les Lions de Beauclerc, with its refined décor, will be perfect!
In the afternoon, you’ll be in great shape to explore France’s largest beech forest, whether on foot, by bike or on horseback. We recommend the Fontaineresse trail or the Lime Kiln trail, both of which are 6.5km circular walks starting from the village of Lyons-la-Forêt.
Back at the hotel, get ready for dinner – why not head to the Bistro du Grand Cerf?
Day 3 – Lyons-la-Forêt – La Roche-Guyon – Paris
It’s the morning of the last day; it’s time to leave Lyons-la-Forêt, but not before having a wander round the village’s shops and workshops in search of a lovely decorative item or some local delicacies!
On your way to La Roche-Guyon, stop off at Mortemer Abbey, founded in the 12th century by the fourth son of William the Conqueror. A place that fits the theme of our break, with its ‘romantic ruins’, but also a mysterious spot steeped in legends (and a few ghosts, so they say!).
It’s time to get back in the car for the final leg of your romantic getaway: La Roche-Guyon, on the right bank of the Seine. Of course, a visit to the château and its fruit and vegetable garden is a must before treating yourselves to lunch for two, either on the grass or on the terrace of the restaurant Les Bords de Seine, from where you might just spot a few cruise boats passing by. Don’t miss the chance to explore the village’s troglodyte heritage by taking the Montée des Charrières, where a number of artisans and shopkeepers have set up shop in the old chalk cellars.
Finally, enjoy one last romantic stroll along the Seine before heading back to Paris… Unless, of course, you’d prefer to extend your stay?
