A warm and welcoming village-resort
In the Haute-Maurienne Valley in Savoie, Bonneval-sur-Arc is wrapped in a thick, fluffy blanket of snow for six to seven months of the year. Only the characteristic chimneys and the spire of the church emerge from this blanket, which covers the stone houses with slate roofs. Set against the backdrop of majestic mountains, the village has remained a ski resort on a human scale.

Whilst the ‘shared-living house’, where people and animals shared the same roof during the winter, is no longer practised today, certain ancestral customs still persist to some extent, such as the drying of ‘grebons’. On wooden balconies, one can still see these briquettes of sheep or ewe manure mixed with straw, which were used for heating.
