Capdenac-le-Haut, a medieval town in Quercy nestled amongst the meandering banks of the River Lot

Perched atop its rocky outcrop, Capdenac-le-Haut overlooks the valley and invites you to take in the view from above. A former Gallo-Roman oppidum, this fortified medieval village unfolds through a labyrinth of cobbled streets.

We stroll along the ramparts, stop by an old fountain and let our gaze wander over the breathtaking views of the Lot Valley. Just a stone’s throw from Figeac, this stone viewpoint brings two thousand years of history to life.

A Capdenac resident’s account

In 1866, the mayor of Capdenac-le-Haut was digging a cellar in his garden when he stumbled upon a hoard of 3,000 Gallic silver coins! Some of them went to a collector, the rest were melted down, and today, five coins are kept at the National Library.
