Gerberoy, a medieval gem with a thousand rose bushes that enchant Picardy
Gerberoy charms visitors from the moment they arrive: its cobbled streets and brick-and-timber houses with their colourful facades invite you to take a leisurely stroll. Nestled on the border between Normandy and Picardy, the village boasts lush gardens where roses, wisteria and hydrangeas bloom in every season. Finally, stroll along the ramparts and discover the castle ruins, transformed into a haven of flowers by the painter Henri Le Sidaner.
Word of Mouth
Founded in 1909, the “Société des Amis de Gerberoy” set itself, amongst other things, the aim of “fostering among residents a taste for good housekeeping, and for the beautification and decoration of their homes”. Two years later, it was even granted permission – by a unanimous vote of the Municipal Council at its meeting on 23 February 1911 – to plant rose bushes to adorn public buildings, including the town hall, the school and the castle gate. Gerberoy’s love of roses and floral displays is therefore firmly rooted in the village’s history!
