Next to the Hell-Bourg town hall annexe, ‘L’Âme de la France’ (The Soul of France), a bronze statue from 1930 designed by the French sculptor Charles SARRABEZOLLES (1888–1971), has survived the wrath of the parish priest, dynamite… and even a cyclone! Miraculously rediscovered on a building site in 1968, this helmeted warrior was eventually restored as a First World War war memorial and listed as a Historic Monument in 2004!
