La Roche-Guyon: a spectacular château, a vibrant garden and white cliffs in the heart of the French Vexin
Just an hour from Paris, La Roche-Guyon clings to a chalk cliff overlooking the meandering Seine. Its castle, carved into the rock and connected to a medieval keep by a secret passage, catches the eye.

Regularly used as locations for ‘period films’, these villages also inspire comic book creators. This is why the Belgian cartoonist Edgar P. Jacobs chose the Val-d’Oise – and, more specifically, one of the most beautiful châteaux in the Île-de-France region, the Château de la Roche-Guyon – as the setting for a new plot. The medieval fortress in the Vexin region would thus serve as the setting for the main events of the sixth volume of the adventures of Blake and Mortimer, *The Diabolical Trap*, published in 1962.

Don’t miss out on any of the village’s architectural and natural heritage by following this route, which takes around 45 minutes. Starting from the bridge over the Seine, Saint-Samson Church, the fountain and the market hall will all feature along the way.

Salon du vin de La Roche-Guyon
The La Roche-Guyon Wine Fair brings passionate winemakers and local producers together in the château’s stables. It is a gourmet getaway in the heart of the Vexin, offering an atmosphere of discovery and warmth.
Against the historic backdrop of the Château de La Roche-Guyon stables, the Wine Fair gives visitors the opportunity to meet passionate winemakers and explore the diversity of French terroirs. Tastings are complemented by a selection of local specialities and on-site catering.
This event, organised by the Rotary Club of Magny-en-Vexin on a voluntary basis to raise funds for its charitable projects, combines culinary delights, a sense of community and a commitment to good causes. It offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy wine tasting alongside an exploration of La Roche-Guyon’s heritage.
Practical information for the 2026 edition: From 30 October to 1 November in the château's stables.
Entry is free, and a tasting glass costs €5.

Walks around La Roche-Guyon
When the fine weather returns, the trails around La Roche-Guyon offer superb getaways. Head up into the hills, crossing hillsides and woodland to the Donjon, and be amazed by the panoramic views over the French Vexin. From local signposted circular walks to the GR2 from Mantes to Vernon via the Route des Crêtes, there’s no shortage of options!

To enjoy the beautiful autumn colours whilst taking a refreshing stroll, head to the arboretum in the Forest of La Roche-Guyon, a place that is both soothing and truly unique: the layout of the trees traces the contours of the Île-de-France region, with each department represented by a different species of tree and the waterways depicted by swathes of grass...!

Even in the rain, the village retains all its charm! Step inside the workshops and galleries located in the lower part of the village or up on the hillside, in the cave dwellings, chat with the craftspeople and appreciate the local craftsmanship.
