Regularly used as locations for ‘period films’, these villages also inspire comic book creators. This is why the Belgian cartoonist Edgar P. Jacobs chose the Val-d’Oise – and, more specifically, one of the most beautiful châteaux in the Île-de-France region, the Château de la Roche-Guyon – as the setting for a new plot. The medieval fortress in the Vexin region would thus serve as the setting for the main events of the sixth volume of the adventures of Blake and Mortimer, *The Diabolical Trap*, published in 1962.

To enjoy the beautiful autumn colours whilst taking a refreshing stroll, head to the arboretum in the Forest of La Roche-Guyon, a place that is both soothing and truly unique: the layout of the trees traces the contours of the Île-de-France region, with each department represented by a different species of tree and the waterways depicted by swathes of grass...!

Even in the rain, the village retains all its charm! Step inside the workshops and galleries located in the lower part of the village or up on the hillside, in the cave dwellings, chat with the craftspeople and appreciate the local craftsmanship.
