Lauzerte, a medieval fortified town in the Quercy Blanc region on the Way of St James
Perched on a rocky outcrop, Lauzerte overlooks the rolling countryside of Tarn-et-Garonne. A 12th-century bastide, founded by the Count of Toulouse, it is a legendary stop on the Way of St James. Here, you can stroll amongst stone and half-timbered houses, discovering the famous Place des Cornières, the Pilgrim’s Garden or the artisan galleries.
Fancy getting a bird's-eye view?
A pilgrims’ stop in Quercy
On the legendary Way of St James via Moissac, the footsteps of pilgrims still echo beneath the arcades. A church, panoramic views and hidden treasures await you on a journey through time.
A Lauzertine legend
During the Hundred Years’ War, Gandillone kept count of the English soldiers by picking up a pebble for every soldier leaving the town. Until the day when there were almost none left, she alerted the town’s leaders, enabling Lauzerte to repel them.
