Penne-d’Agenais, a medieval vantage point overlooking the Lot and a stopping point for pilgrims in the Green Quercy
Penne-d’Agenais, perched high in the Quercy region, overlooks the Lot Valley. At the summit, the Sanctuary of Notre-Dame de Peyragude offers panoramic views of the village and the hills of the Pays de Serres. In the steep, narrow streets, artists’ studios and art galleries bring the medieval heart of the town to life. A stop on the Way of St James, Penne also opens out onto the banks of the Lot, with its old trading port and its lake, ideal for a break by the water.
The Lot in the spotlight
Part pilgrimage site, part local gem, Penne-d’Agenais invites you to immerse yourself in the Green Quercy. Why not make it your next destination?
Word of Mouth
Following a bloody siege in 1562 between Protestants and Catholics, the plague struck Penne. To ward off the evil, the inhabitants rebuilt Notre-Dame de Peyragude… and still make a pilgrimage there every 15 August.
