History of religions and silk production in the Uzès region

Nestled behind its ramparts some twenty kilometres north of Uzès, Lussan offers sweeping views of the Cévennes, the Ardèche mountains and Mont Ventoux. As you wander through its narrow streets, you can discover the town's history spanning several centuries, from the conflicts between Catholics and Protestants to the rise of silk production. Beyond the walls, the Pierre Plantée menhir and the impressive Concluses Gorges bear witness to an even older historical and geological heritage.

Word of Mouth

You simply cannot round off your stay in Lussan… without exploring Les Concluses. Around a 10-minute drive from the village lies one of the most remarkable sites in the Gard. Once you’ve put on your trainers and a cap, a well-maintained path of around 1 kilometre takes you down to the bottom of a spectacular canyon carved out by the River Aiguillon. Information boards reveal the history of the area; for the rest, you simply need to keep your eyes peeled. Be careful, though: whilst the river at the bottom of the canyon may be dry in summer, it can become turbulent and very dangerous during rainy periods.
