Between the Cèze River and the sun-drenched scrubland: welcome to Montclus!

Why not set off to explore Occitan Provence? Montclus is the perfect example! Situated on the border with the Ardèche but nestled in the Gard, the village lies in a bend of the Cèze. Amidst the vaulted passageways and staircases, the castle keep has watched over the village for centuries. Stroll amongst vineyards and lavender fields, discover the ancient troglodyte monastery and savour the gentle Provençal way of life.

Château de Montclus

Explore the 12th-century castle ruins, which still include a large courtyard and two towers. The 32-metre-high square keep towering over the village is a reminder of the power of the Counts of Sabran.

Word of Mouth

Before 1870, the only way to cross the Cèze was by ferry, which charged a fee for both people and animals. The arrival of the Pont du Moulin therefore truly changed the lives of the people of Montclus!

Fancy a little adventure with friends? Set off from Montclus on a 17 km loop through forests, vineyards and landscapes shaped by the river. It’s the perfect way to discover all the treasures of Occitan Provence at your own pace.

Walk around Montclus

In the spring sunshine, the walk to the Dent du Serret offers an accessible route leading to one of the most beautiful viewpoints over the Cèze Gorges. Follow the path through the woods and past the cliffs, then let yourself be captivated by this breathtaking panorama.

Swimming in the Cèze

At the foot of the village, the River Cèze invites you to enjoy a refreshing swim on its pebble beach. Whilst the children have fun in the little rapids, take in the splendid view of the Moulin bridge and the peaceful setting of Montclus.
