Polignac, a medieval fortress set against the volcanic landscapes of the Velay
Fancy a panorama that will take your breath away? Polignac is the place for you!
Just a stone's throw from Le Puy-en-Velay, this village in Auvergne overlooks the valley from its basalt dyke. From its medieval fortress, there is a superb view of the Monts du Velay.
Situated close to the Way of St James, it is an ideal stopover for hikers and history buffs. Here, the volcanic stone is more than just a backdrop: it lends the narrow streets and houses their distinctive character.
The Volcanic Fortress of Velay
In the land of volcanoes, Polignac combines a fortress, volcanic rock and sweeping panoramic views for an authentic immersion in the Auvergne region.
From Polignac to Monaco
On 1 June 2023, Polignac welcomed Prince Albert II of Monaco. A nod to his roots: his grandfather, Pierre de Polignac, became Prince of Monaco in 1920. Almost a century later, the Prince returned to the village of his ancestors… on another rock!
