Art and fine living in the Fayence region
Just a few kilometres from Fayence, Seillans has all the hallmarks of a typical Provençal village: its houses terraced along the hillside, its cobbled streets, its arched passageways and its little squares with babbling fountains, its sunny climate and its landscapes of vineyards and olive groves. The place charmed the painter Max Ernst, who lived there during the final years of his life; his work can be admired at the Tanning-Ernst Foundation.

At the entrance to the village, on the square where he loved to join in games of pétanque, the painter Max Ernst – so captivated by Seillans that he settled there with his partner Dorothea Tanning – left behind the statue of the Genius of the Bastille as a memento.
