Exposition "Cahiers d'Art. Modernité et Archaïsme"

The team at the Musée Départemental d'Art Moderne-Collection Zervos (MDAM) is delighted to welcome you from 3 April to 8 November 2026, from 10am to 6pm except Tuesdays, and every day in July and August. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the magazine Cahiers d'Art created by Christian Zervos and the 20th anniversary of the museum. We will be presenting the temporary exhibition produced with the Musée national Picasso-Paris (MnPP) for its second year of partnership: "Cahiers d'Art: Modernity and Archaism". The exhibition looks at how the magazine Cahiers d'Art helped to redefine the boundaries between modernity and archaism, and explores the Zervos collection in dialogue with the MnPP's collections and a range of guest works from national and regional collections. Festival "Jules Roy, Rostropovitch, Gainsbourg et Nous" : ateliers d'écriture

For its third edition, the festival "Jules Roy, Rostropovitch, Gainsbourg and Us" at the Maison Jules-Roy is a place dedicated to literary creation. At the heart of the programme, the moving correspondence between Jules Roy and Tatiana reveals a major epistolary heritage, deeply rooted in Vézelay. The festival also highlights Evguénie Sokolov, Serge Gainsbourg's only novel, a singular and provocative text in which Gainsbourg converses with Gainsbarre. Music has a special place here, echoing the recording of the Bach Suites by Rostropovitch in the Basilica of Vézelay in 1991, with a major concert as the highlight. The successor to the book Rostropovitch, Gainsbourg et Dieu, this festival celebrates the meeting of these figures and brings back to life an emblematic place of artistic creation. Festival "Jules Roy, Rostropovitch, Gainsbourg et Nous" : Lecture Unicae unica lettres d’amour de Tatiana et Jules Roy

For this third edition of the ‘Jules Roy, Rostropovich, Gainsbourg and Us’ festival, the Maison Jules-Roy is establishing itself as a venue dedicated to literary creation. At the heart of the programme, the deeply moving correspondence between Jules Roy and Tatiana reveals a significant body of letters, deeply rooted in Vézelay. The festival also shines a spotlight on *Evguénie Sokolov*, Serge Gainsbourg’s only novel – a unique and provocative text in which Gainsbourg engages in dialogue with Gainsbarre. Music plays a central role, echoing Rostropovich’s 1991 recording of Bach’s Suites in Vézelay Basilica, with a major concert serving as the highlight of the festival. Building on the legacy of the book *Rostropovich, Gainsbourg and God*, this festival celebrates the convergence of these figures and breathes new life into an iconic venue for artistic creation. Friday 11 September 2026 at 8.30 pm Garden of the Maison Jules-Roy In the event of bad weather, the event will be held at the Cité de la Voix in Vézelay. ‘Unicae unica’ reading: love letters from Tatiana and Jules Roy. Featuring a duo of exceptional artists: Sylvia Bergé, a member of the Comédie-Française, and Daniel Mesguich, director, actor, writer, lecturer and narrator. An adaptation by Cécile Berly of the correspondence between Tatiana and Jules Roy. Jules Roy and women. This is the story of a man of his time who loves women whilst harbouring a certain contempt for them. And who makes even less of a secret of his lack of understanding for women who write. On 7 December 1965, Jules Roy remarried Tatiana Soukhoroukoff. She was a journalist, poet and translator: it was she who translated the works of her husband, the ‘great writer’. Between these two contrasting yet complementary personalities lies a story of love and literature. To each other, they are ‘Unicae unica’, unique. From 1978 onwards, they also shared a passion for Vézelay and the house overlooking the basilica that they cherished. This correspondence is brilliant. It is time for it to take its rightful place in the history of literature. ‘I feel a little sad, with a great longing to see friends from time to time, and to immerse myself in creative work, the only thing that fulfils me. The time is drawing near when I shall set about it again. May you help me with the light of your mind and heart. […] I love you in my own way, and very often I realise that you do not know that I love you. […] If only you realised just how dear, precious and essential you are to me, it would make your life so much easier… What better words could a husband say to his wife? ” Letter from Jules Roy to his wife Tatiana, 4 September 1966 SYLVIA BERGÉ Sylvia Bergé grew up in a family of artists. She studied Russian and Japanese at INALCO before devoting herself to the theatre. Trained at the Cours Florent and then at the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique, she learnt acting and singing, a discipline that remains an integral part of her artistic practice to this day. Jean-Louis Barrault directed her in Victor Hugo’s *Angelo, Tyrant of Padua*, and Philippe Adrien in Marivaux’s *Les Acteurs de bonne foi* and *La Méprise*. Sylvia Bergé joined the Comédie-Française in 1988 and became its 496th member in 1998. In high demand for both classical and contemporary repertoire, she will appear in Victor Hugo’s *Ruy Blas*, directed by Julie Duclos, in the autumn of 2026. During the 2025/2026 season, she appeared in Marius von Mayenburg’s *Le Moche*, directed by Aurélien Hamard-Padis; in Nicolaï Erdman’s *Le Suicidé*, directed by Stéphane Varupenne (revived in the winter of 2026); in *La Puce à l’oreille* by Georges Feydeau, directed by Lilo Baur, and three plays by Molière: *Le Mariage forcé* directed by Louis Arene, by Christian Hecq and Valérie Lefort in *Le Bourgeois gentilhomme*, and by Ivo Van Hove in *Tartuffe* – with whom she had previously worked on *Les Damnés*, based on Visconti’s film, and on *Electra / Orestes* by Euripides. She played the Marquise in Marivaux’s *Le Petit-Maître corrigé*, directed by Clément Hervieu-Léger; she portrayed the Mother in the three musical productions *Le Loup*, *Le Cerf et le chien* and *Le Chien*, based on Marcel Aymé’s *Les Contes du chat perché* and directed by Raphaëlle Saudinos and Véronique Vella, having previously played Venus in Molière’s *Psyché*, directed by Véronique Vella. Anne Kessler directed her in Schnitzler’s *La Ronde*, and David Lescot in his play *Les Ondes magnétiques* as well as in Karl Kraus’s *Les Derniers jours de l’humanité* – all of which were also musical productions. She also worked with Jacques Lasalle on Ödön von Horváth’s *Figaro divorce*, Nathalie Sarraute’s *Le Silence* and Michel Vinaver’s *L’Émission de télévision* – Vinaver also directed her in his play *L’Ordinaire*. She played Gorky opposite Gérard Desarthe in *Les Estivants* and appeared in Robert Wilson’s production of *La Fontaine’s Fables*. Her training in vocal art, notably with Jean-Pierre Blivet and Élène Golgevit, makes her an ideal performer for roles combining singing and comedy. She thus took part in the show *Mais quelle Comédie!* by Serge Bagdassarian and Marina Hands, following *L’Opéra de 4 sous* directed by Laurent Pelly and *La Vie parisienne* by Daniel Mesguish, as well as the cabaret shows *Barbara* and *Brassens*, and *Chansons déconseillées*. She created *Le Cabaret des mers* and *Quatre femmes et un piano* herself. She has specialised in the form of melodrama, known as ‘musicodrama’, and gives concerts in Paris at the Opéra Comique (in March 2026), in the Paris region at Clichy or the Domaine de Grosbois (26 May), in Burgundy for the Fortissimot Festival in Mâcon and the Musival Festival (southern Burgundy), as well as in Switzerland as part of the Estivales Musicales for several seasons. Most recently, she directed and performed in Benda’s melodrama *Médée* at the Opéra Comique with the Opéra Comique’s academy members. She has recorded three audiobooks: *La vieillesse* and *Les Mémoires d’une jeune fille rangée* by Simone de Beauvoir and, with Coraly Zahonero, *Le Train d’Erlingen ou la Métamorphose de Dieu* by Boualem Sansal – two titles published by Gallimard Audio. Founded in 2021 by cellist and conductor Victor Julien-Laferrière, Consuelo is one of France's most talked-about ensembles. Together, they naturally explore the repertoire for chamber orchestra, but also tackle the great symphonic works. Whether Mozart, Brahms, Debussy or Bartók, the orchestra covers a wide range of musical periods, and also allows us to discover more confidential pieces, rarely performed or recorded. Special opening of the Franciscan hermitage of La Cordelle, in Vézelay, whilst renovation work is in full swing! Founded over 800 years ago at the foot of the ‘eternal hill’ by the Franciscans, La Cordelle is a unique place of peace, hospitality and prayer, still home to monks. Set in the heart of the countryside, the site is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, alongside the hill and the basilica of Vézelay, and is also designated as a historic monument. Major renovation work is currently underway to preserve this living heritage. To mark the 2026 European Heritage Days, the Franciscans and the Association des Amis de La Cordelle invite you to join them on Saturday 19 September from 2.30 pm to 7 pm to explore the hermitage and visit the ongoing renovation site. Conférence "Romain Rolland et Frans Masereel : une amitié au-dessus de la mêlée"

French writer Romain Rolland (1866-1944) and Belgian engraver Frans Masereel (1889-1972), who had taken refuge in Switzerland as pacifists during the First World War, met in Villeneuve, on the shores of Lake Geneva, in October 1917. A lasting friendship was born between the humanist intellectual and the committed artist: it gave rise to numerous illustrated publishing collaborations (Liluli, Pierre et Luce, Jean-Christophe), an animated film project (La Révolte des Machines) and an extensive correspondence until Rolland's death. The talk will paint a portrait of this friendship against the backdrop of an inter-war period marked by an inexorable rise to peril.

Concert-hommage à François d'Assise (Vézelay) - "La Prédication aux Oiseaux"

To mark the 800th anniversary of the death of Francis of Assisi (1226–2026), the Franciscans at the hermitage of La Cordelle in Vézelay – the Order’s first foundation in France – are organising a tribute concert entitled ‘The Sermon to the Birds’. A 2026 production by François-René Duchâble (pianist) and Alain Carré (actor and adapter), to be staged at the Cité de la Voix in Vézelay. Join us on Saturday 3 October 2026 at 3.30 pm at La Cité de la Voix in Vézelay (4 Rue de l’Hôpital, 89450 Vézelay). Admission is free but booking is recommended (limited places) via the online form or by contacting us at contact@lacordellevezelay.org. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT LA CITÉ DE LA VOIX to book. ‘François was born at the end of the 12th century, in an Italy torn apart by war, within the walls of the small town of Assisi. He grew up a few years before the Third Crusade, in an era wavering between good fortune and misfortune, as if it were awaiting the arrival of someone. He experienced the idleness and pleasures of the wealthy young men of his time. He dreamt of seeing the world, of becoming a great prince or a knight. But someone was hidden away, waiting for him. Someone who knew neither weapons, nor titles, nor pride: God.” To pay tribute to Francis of Assisi, how could we fail to feature, on the piano, ‘The Sermon to the Birds’ by Saint Francis, composed by Franz Liszt (1811–1886)? The music, accompanied by texts by Christian Bobin, from ‘The Wisdom of a Poor Man’ by Brother Eloi Leclerc, and by Francis of Assisi, will make this performance a moment of elevation, spirituality, simplicity and truth. ‘The child set off with the angel, and the dog followed behind.’ (Bobin) Music by Bach, Satie, Liszt, Ravel, Chopin… Texts by St Francis of Assisi, Christian Bobin, Julien Green, Eloi Leclerc…

At sunrise, this walk invites you to discover the eternal hill in a different way, with its emerging light, landscapes and morning silence. Le pouvoir transformateur des symboles

This two-day seminar is designed for those wishing to discover or deepen their understanding of the symbolic significance of the capitals in the Basilica of Vézelay. Half a dozen capitals will be observed and deciphered, leaving room for individual interpretation. Led by Hélène Ramin and Christopher Kelly, heritage guides from the Maison du Visiteur, the seminar will take place in sessions lasting between 1 h 30 and 2 h.
