Vogüé, a charming village with its castle on the banks of the Ardèche
With its feet in the water and its face to the sun, Vogüé has a southern feel – and a heritage – that many envy!
On the banks of the Ardèche, nestled against a cliff, the castle of the Lords of Vogüé and its four round towers watch over the village and its medieval houses. You’ll love strolling through its amphitheatre-like narrow streets lined with arcades and vaulted passageways. And of course, you’ll be irresistibly drawn to the untamed charm of the legendary river and its natural surroundings, which offer plenty of opportunities for all sorts of activities!
Between the Massif Central and the Mediterranean South, welcome to Vogüé!
Nature and medieval charm near the Ardèche Gorges
From themed tours of the castle to water sports on the Ardèche and cycle rides along the greenway, Vogûé is the perfect family destination! Ready to go?
Word of Mouth
Built in 1877 for the Vogüé–Aubenas line, the former railway viaduct spanning the Ardèche has now been converted into a cycle path. Its curved alignment required the complex construction of skewed vaults, built using irregularly shaped stones. This technical feat, known as stereotomy, can be particularly admired in the vault spanning the road near the holiday village.

Enjoy the view from the Sainte-Cérise Chapel
You’ll have to climb a bit, but the reward will be well worth the effort! Set off from the tourist office on a 7.3 km hike (2 hours). When you arrive at the charming Romanesque chapel, also known as ‘la Gleysette’, take in the magnificent panoramic view looking down over the castle, the village and the Ardèche river at its feet, as well as the Auzon valley.
Combining sightseeing with tastings
Visiting the area also means sampling the local specialities! If you have a sweet tooth, head to the nougat factory “Le Genêt d’or” to discover the different stages of making artisanal nougat, right through to packaging, and to sample this regional speciality (bookings required). Are you a hop lover? The Brasserie des Rieux is waiting for you! The brewing and fermentation processes will hold no more secrets for you. And of course, enjoy the tasting in moderation!
Discover the art studios in the former vicarage
In the magnificent vaulted cellars of the village’s former vicarage, near the church, three craftswomen are waiting to share their talent and passion for ceramics and glasswork. It’s a chance to admire a recently restored historic building and unearth some high-quality local souvenirs… or to treat yourself to something special that will brighten up your home!
Ideas for everyone, all the time
Treasure hunt
Set off on a treasure hunt through Vogüé! Look out for the markers on the ground and solve the puzzles on the back of the map, which you’ll have picked up from the Tourist Office beforehand. At the end of this trail, which takes about 1½ hours, return to the Tourist Office to check your answers and find out your score. A fun challenge to enjoy with friends!
A relaxing break at the spa
Treat yourselves to a moment of well-being for two at the Lou Capitelle estate. Nestled in the heart of a pine forest opposite the village, on the other side of the Ardèche, a 400m² spa area awaits you, featuring a hydrotherapy pool, sauna and hammam, a Japanese garden and solarium, and, of course, the option to book massages and other beauty treatments. A pampering break in unspoilt surroundings...
A ride along the “Via Ardèche” greenway
On foot, by bike, on rollerblades or on a balance bike: the choice is yours! Starting from Vogüé and stretching to the village of Grospierre, this 25 km route, built along the old railway line, allows you to safely enjoy the views of the Ardèche, the southern plains and the Cévennes mountains, whilst passing through some of the region’s iconic natural sites and medieval villages. A lovely idea for a day out as the warmer weather returns!
Canoeing down the Ardèche
Summers are hot in the Ardèche, and there’s only one thing on everyone’s mind: enjoying the cool waters of the river! And that’s why we love canoeing! For a gentle introduction at your own pace, opt for a 6km route to Balazuc, another of the department’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages de France’. Fancy a more challenging outing? Choose the 18km route to Ruoms: perfect for a day spent drifting along the river!
