You won’t be able to miss this speciality from Entrevaux: Secca. This dried and salted meat product (from the Provençal word ‘secca’) was invented and patented in the 1980s by Robert Lovera, who was the village butcher at the time. Inspired by the meat-curing traditions found in mountain valleys, it is served in thin slices and enjoyed on appetiser platters, as carpaccio or in salads.

Stroll through the narrow streets of the old village
Step back in time as you cross the drawbridge and enter the heart of the medieval town. Shaded squares, fountains, craft shops and art galleries await you as you wander through the streets. With the help of the map provided by the Tourist Office, you can follow the heritage trail to ensure you don’t miss a thing about the area’s history!

Walk along the old rampart walk
Sheltered behind the fortification walls, follow the old parapet walk overlooking the Var. Dotted with a number of exhibition spaces showcasing local history, customs and traditions, it offers unusual views through arrow slits and watchtowers.

As well as the famous beef ‘Secca’, Entrevaux is home to a wealth of other recipes and produce with Provençal flavours. A walk along the “Les Moulins d’Entrevaux” trail
Set off with the family on a one-hour interactive walk to discover the village’s oil and flour mills. Pop into the Tourist Office beforehand to pick up a tablet; the “Les Moulins d’Entrevaux” app will guide you past the ramparts and the citadel, along the River Chalvagne. Videos, audio recordings and quizzes for children will immerse you in the farming practices of days gone by. You’ll also be able to see the olive oil mill, which is still in operation.
Walk to Saint-Jean-du-Désert
Follow in the footsteps of the annual pilgrimage undertaken every June by the Confraternity of Saint-Jeanists in honour of the village’s patron saint. This 18km round-trip walk (approx. 5½ hours), designed for experienced walkers, will take you to the Chapelle du Désert via the old path between Entrevaux and Castellane and the Col de Saint-Jeannet.
Kayaking or rafting down the Var
From the River Var, enjoy a different perspective on the citadel and ramparts of the fortified town of Entrevaux! Aboard your craft, you’ll journey down the river through exhilarating rapids and pass under the drawbridge. Along the way, sweeping views of the valley and a stop for a swim promise a refreshing and unforgettable experience!
