La Romieu, a stopover in Gascony at the crossroads on the route to Santiago de Compostela

Take the Pilgrims' Route to Santiago de Compostela and stop off at La Romieu, where the routes from Le Puy and Rocamadour meet!

Nestled in the heart of the charming and unpretentious Gascon countryside, this small medieval village built of light-coloured stone hides a gem: its 14th-century collegiate church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Surrounding the building and the arcaded square, the remaining sections of the ramparts and the cobbled streets form a harmonious setting that is perfect for a leisurely stroll...

Because that’s another thing we love about La Romieu: taking our time and enjoying the gentle way of life that is so typical of this beautiful department of Gers!

Heritage and the good life in Gascony

As well as its religious heritage, don’t miss out on discovering what else makes La Romieu so charming: its lush green surroundings, its relaxed way of life and the Gascon culture, where local produce and a love of celebration are never far away! Ready for a getaway to Gascony?

Word of Mouth

In La Romieu, the cat sculptures recall the legend of Angéline, who saved cats during a famine. Moved by this story, the sculptor Maurice Serreau placed them throughout the village.
