Whilst the Christmas markets in Strasbourg and Colmar are world-renowned, those in our “Plus Beaux Villages de France” in Alsace are every bit as good! Head to Bergheim, Riquewihr, Eguisheim or even Hunspach to celebrate the local cuisine, the art of decoration and everything that makes up the Christmas tradition in Alsace!

The Bergheim Christmas Market (Haut-Rhin)

Ranked amongst the Plus Beaux Villages de France in Alsace, less than 8 kilometres north-east of Riquewihr, Bergheim also showcases its traditions and creativity at its Christmas market, which will take place this year from 28 November to 7 December 2025. Brilliantly lit up, Bergheim and its warm, welcoming atmosphere are sure to delight you.

Your Christmas activities in Bergheim...

  1. Stroll through the village’s narrow streets to discover over 80 handcrafted nativity scenes.
  2. Visit the Witches’ House to learn about the history of women who were burnt at the stake in the 16th and 17th centuries during witch trials in Bergheim.
  3. Attend the concerts organised during the Christmas market.

The Eguisheim Christmas Market (Haut-Rhin)

Just 6 kilometres from Colmar, from where you can take a shuttle bus to Eguisheim, the Christmas market brings together around thirty designers and craftspeople around the square and Saint-Léon Castle, giving it a picturesque and authentic feel. Open every day from 28 November to 30 December 2025, they offer original, high-quality creations to pop into stockings under the Christmas tree.

The whole village is brought to life and illuminated for the occasion, creating a festive and magical atmosphere worthy of the most beautiful Christmas displays, whilst showcasing the village’s traditional architecture. So, follow the night watchman for some unusual tours to discover the hidden treasures and traditions of this Alsatian village. A procession of lights, a Christmas treasure hunt, an Advent calendar, concerts… there are events that will feature in the programme of events during this period.

Your Christmas activities in Eguisheim…
  1. Head to the Christmas wine cellars to sample (in moderation, of course!) Eguisheim’s Alsatian wines and take part in the winemakers’ events.
  2. Young and old alike are invited to open the daily window of the Advent calendar in Eguisheim’s main square to reveal a photo of the village.

The Riquewihr Christmas market (Haut-Rhin)

About ten kilometres from Colmar, the ‘pearl of the Alsatian vineyards’ is all aglow, and the Christmas market is brimming with traditional Alsatian specialities (bredele, gingerbread), Christmas decorations and handmade gifts by passionate craftspeople. This year, the Christmas market in Riquewihr takes place from 28 November to 19 December 2025.

  1. Step inside the “Féérie de Noël” shop: at the top of the village’s main street, push open the door to this magical place that brings the Christmas tradition to life all year round with a wide selection of decorations.
  2. Add a touch of sparkle to your meals! Did you know that Crémant d’Alsace was first produced in Riquewihr? Go and meet the village’s winegrowers and stock up on provisions for your Christmas Eve dinner!
  3. Take the time to visit: make the most of your stay to discover the history of Riquewihr, a fortified medieval town, at the Dolder Museum.

Christmas of Yesteryear in Hunspach (Bas-Rhin)

In northern Alsace, Hunspach stands out from its colourful neighbours, Eguisheim and Riquewihr, further south, with its white cob facades and black half-timbering, typical of the Outre-Forêt region. The village has always nurtured its rural character and drawn on its traditions to keep Alsatian folklore alive. As such, Hunspach’s Christmas celebrations will place a strong emphasis on Christmas traditions, storytelling and musical performances. In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, discover traditional crafts and the spirit of Christmas at ‘Noël d’Antan’ on 29 and 30 November 2025.

  1. Don’t miss out on Hunspach’s tradition by exploring  the Christmas Windows Trail, from 29 November 2025 to 6 January 2026.
  2. A Christmas concert will be held at Hunspach Church on 6 December at 6.30 pm, performed by the Stereo Orchestra.

  • The Alsatian Christmas markets are very busy, particularly at weekends. If you can, try to visit during the week to do your shopping and make the most of the atmosphere and the entertainment on offer.
